cogitate@sonic.netThe first rule of fight club is....
I have grown up in sonoma county, I enjoy learning and I try to live to the best of my abilites. I try my best to keep my mind as open as possible, and most importantly, I just try to live (Define that as you may). I'm a curious person, I like to know how things work. I enjoy solving problems. No higher enjoyment, fun and good feelings can come from a great relationship with the oppiset sex. Yeah.. I'm a romantic at heart. I enjoy music of many kinds, my lifes soundtrack is intresting to think about.
I'm currently a student at the Santa Rosa Junior college. I'm majoring in Computer Science.
I also do a lot of reading and studing on my own, as I have done for quite awhile. Computer classes and teachers have been a joke thus far in my formal education. I'm a curious person, I like to know how things work. I enjoy solving problems.
A lot of my computer and education focus is in the areas of networking and more importiantly security. I have been learning about computer security seriously for the past 3 years. I currently attend various confrences and also help run a local group of other security and computer 'minded' people. I plan on trasfering to UC Davis to study computer science, where I hope to work and study with the NSA awarded,UCD Computer Security lab. This is an excellent qoute on software security:
"I don't believe we'll ever see a reversal of the trend towards bloatware in software. But with security now a major threat to every single software company in the world, the security issues that stem from increasing software complexity must be addressed. The solution to all this complexity cannot be more complexity; we must find a more elegant and simple solution. Security must become ingrained into everything we do."
I am an open source advocate, I use Free Software and I run various operating systems. I use Linux on a daily basis and I use OpenBSD for my home server. (Learn more about the free software movement and GNU ).
In the wake of 9/11, the patriot act, london bombings and continued terrorist 'threat' I have taken a large intrest in privacy and the current dimishing state of liberties (that we take for granted compared to many other countries). Uh oh.. todays a "yellow alert" day... (gimme a break people... Read 1984 and compare to today). Fear = Control. For more information on how to advocate for freedom of information and rights, Checkout the EFF, or the ACLU.
I am intrested in robotics and artifical intelligence (in robots and computers), future computer human interface design and Virtual Reality.
I like to think of myself as a critical thinker, sadly I feel as if many are not. The current state of our country, and culture is an indirect result of this deficiency.
I enjoy cooking and learning to cook... I've heard there is a movement in europe to ban micowaves, I think becides quickly heating up milk/liquids... they are not good. (This is one of the only examples of when I don't like to use a newer technology)
I love to take photos and do photography, I don't have the money for a Digital SLR, and my older full manual T80 Canon has a sticky shutter that I have yet to get fixed. Hopefully a D70 nikon or A decent digital camera is in my not so distant future.
Cars have been a passion for as long as I can remember. I've been going to the races since I was around 3, my dad's passion is older cars and going fast. So we share our love for compression ratios, RPMs and strips of rubber on the ground. I will enjoy the day when I have the ability to purchase my first of many dream cars. I know quite a bit about how cars work, and currently am finishing building a hot rod, "pro-street" truck with my father.
I have taken a few philisophy classes and a comparitive religion class. All have been highly intresting and I will probably minior in it. I used to be an atheist, now I'm just agnostic. Eastern religions, most notably buddism are highly compatable with my views and philosophy on life and how to live. I also should note that Evangelical Christian people scare me. If you find yourself in that category, please seek help in removing yourself from an ideology of hate.
"This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time."
I enjoy traveling. I have been to Europe, Las Vegas and NYC most notibily. I live semi-close to San francisco yet sadly I don't go there enough. If I talked about where I want to travel to next, the list would be...well.. too long.
-Ok thats enough information...more than I wanted to tell..but thats how it goes when im trying to sum up who i am and what im about... cuz its quite complicated.
I could type on and on and on..but you don't care. If you really want to find out more, shoot me an email and we'll get some coffee-
Below are some quotes I try to remember, enjoy, and live by....
"Life has no meaning a priori...It is up to you to give it a meaning, and value is nothing but the meaning that you choose." -Sartre Being and Nothingness
"More people are killed every year by pigs than by sharks, which shows you how good we are at evaluating risk." - Bruce Schneier in Beyond Fear
"Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken." -Fight club
"You have to know, not fear, know that someday you are going to die, and until you know that and you embrace that you are useless." -Tyler Durden
"God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly waking up to that fact, people. And we're very, very pissed off." -Fight Club
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." -Martin Luther King
"he goes to the mirror opens his mouth: and his tongue is an enormous, live centipede, rubbing its legs together and scraping his palate. He'd like to spit it out, but the centipede is part of him and he will to tear it out with his own hands..." -Sartre
"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: It transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural and the spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity." -Einstein
"Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving." -Einstein
"How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he sometimes thinks he senses it. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people— first of all for those upon whose smiles and well-being our own happiness is wholly dependent, and then for the many, unknown to us, to whose destinies we are bound by the ties of sympathy. A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving..." -Einstein
Keep your eyes open people.... there's a big world out there. Don't be fake, keep it real... I try to take it one day at a time and just try to see the big picture.
